2004 RESERVE - Red Wine

95 Points Wine and Spirits - von Strasser’s Reserve is unusual in its emphasis on equal parts Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc each contributing ten percent of the blend. Verdot enhances the richness of the wine, the velvet texture and mouthfilling weight. That restful softness contrasts with layers of stony complexity, as if earth had been extracted into fruit. The blend is sophisticated, confident and delicious, a great Napa Valley wine that is sure to become a classic.

96 Points, Three Puffs – Connoisseurs Guide - Deep, dense and unstinting in optimally ripened cassis and black-cherry fruit this show-stopping effort is uncommonly well-balanced for the very big wine that it is and shows a wonderful sense of layering that makes it so much more than just another brooding, broad-shouldered study in ripeness. It is sufficiently tannic to want a minimum of half-dozen years in the cellar, but it is a collectible wine that has all of the pieces in place to develop famously for a decade and more.

91 Points – Wine Spectator - Big, firm and intense, with rich, chewy currant, mineral, cedar and sage flavors that coat the palate. Yet there are elements to this massive youngster that give it a sense of elegance. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2009 through 2016. – J.L.

90 Points Robert Parker - The 2004 Reserve exhibits aromas of sweet black cherries, spice, and earth. This masculine, tanic, backward red is pure, well-structured, and less charming than some of its siblings, but it is built for the longer haul. Cellar for 2-4 years and consume it over the following 15+.
